It is a logical decision by EA. Even if they are only after political factors. The NFL and Madden have a sizable African American fandom, along with being essentially a US exclusive product with minimal global appeal. Not the ideal time to fall info when one of your biggest demographics & just market is to literal fire. From an advertising/marketing stage, theyve done this numerous times (smaller scale) for Battlefront 2. The CM said theyre seeking to make the Mut 21 coins maximum spalsh as possible. If people are outside protesting = less viewers. And more importantly, lower internet engagement. On most social websites it is impossible to discuss anything but the protests at the moment. They need people speaking about the reveal but that could be spelled out by the much larger news right now.
Yeah, but they might have just as easily said"because of increasing tensions" or even postponed without saying anything. Picking a side of this fence means probably alienating some investors, board members, partners and clients. Consumers watch EA for some of the dumb shit they do using games that they develop and release, but they don't see what they do for triggers like equality and office diversity (they have ever been awarded in numerous years). They're really super progressive internally and should be praised for that. It is simple to be skeptical about this sort of thing, but they could just have easily prevented making an announcement. Yo, thanks so much for sharing that info. That's amazing on EA's part. No matter how people feel about their games we should praise them for their progressive actions. I'm surprised that I am simply NOW hearing relating to this. I truly want the gambling community would step up and start caring a lot more about things like this.
Same could happen if it was Epic or Activision. If CDPR, Valve or any other be******d company did exactly the same, comments would be wholly different. Edit: Sony did the exact same and the overall reception on those remarks are largely positive. Stay fresh, Reddit. I really don't think so. If their main customer base is African American is doesn't make sense to market to them right now. As they won't be spending at this time, as games is not on there minds at this time. Not about honor imo. More or less they not moving into the stores immediately to make purchases. A wonderful gesture, but aren't these the very same people who censored Colin Kaepernick's title from a song in one of the previous Madden games?
I'll preface this by stating I don't think it's a bad thing for them to bring awareness to this situation. It's significant that it can't only be ignored by looking away from it. With that said, I do hold a certain amount of doubt towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to significant social issues. They're in the best possible place to do more than simply put out a press release or public statement. Of course, as a philosophical business they're under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they try to stand in solidarity with the ordinary men and women. Now there are companies out there that do things and this is the time to emphasize those efforts; to show that they're more than just words.
I would generally agree in the event of paying lip service to social issues without also putting cash and support to advocate for change or implementing it to the company and their job in the very least. That said police brutality is not exactly something that a company like EA throwing cash at the issue does considerably towards fixing. At best they put money towards the lawyers and groups that struggle to see justice after the truth or lobby to have laws changed in the current government won't. It has systemic difficulties within police of not reporting their own and holding them accountable instead staying silent and with the police unions that allow it all to occur or in a sense even encourage it from the repercussions being a slap on the buy Madden 21 coins wrist followed by being hired in a different precinct showing them there's no consequences. Before even getting to laws and rulings such as qualified immunity which shield abusive cops and permit them to misuse their power freely. The majority of that EA and many capitalist businesses aren't able to do all that much about making it unjust to say they are in the best possible position to do much more.
